An Explanation of this Artwork (Red Wings was created in response to a request for non-monetary compensation in exchange for The Sickly Season magazine. This explanation was packed with the work.) I've been selling off a lot of stuff on ebay and half.com, and giving things away on craigslist and freecycle. Sometimes, though, I'll buy something. All this buying and selling has required me to become familiar with cardboard boxes, shipping things, and tape. For the past nine years, I've been "decluttering" or getting rid of stuff, mostly my father's stuff. I'm on a "decluttering" online support group, where we used to discuss different issues around "stuff". My father was a compulsive hoarder, and I am to some degree, as well. One of the cognitive techniques I use to "clean" is to photograph the mess, and analyze the photo to figure out how to clean up. It's also a way to record the possessions, so I can overcome the anxiety associated with disposing of perfectly good stuff. Clutter and disposal figure into the complex of my life today. It's inextricable from my relationship with my parents, and my past and present. The drawing is charcoal on paper, with packaging tape, mounted on a cardboard shoebox. The shoebox was used to send me a microphone I purchased on ebay. This entire package was prepared and mailed between March 20th and March 21st, 2006. The drawing dates from around January 2006. Feel free to do whatever you want with it. References: On ebay, half.com, and amazon, I am "declutter69".
