Update, "Left Leaning" Brookings Institute

I've been learning a bit of MS Access lately, and unable to keep up with writing stuff. Sysadminning takes priority. Here are some interesting things:

I was watching some video of 60-Minutes, and they referred to the Brookings Institute as "left-leaning". What? I thought I was up to date on the Left stuff, but didn't know the BI was "left". A web search for "Left Leaning Brookings Institute" turned up a lot of results.

I perused a few articles, and didn't really detect a "left" lean. In fact, in the first debate I found, a this WNYC debate, the Brookings fella took the "right-wing" side supporting Clintonian welfare reform. Where's the "left" lean here? The centrist with her fact-based evidence is on the "left" here, and the Brookings guy is taking the right-wing neoliberal ideological position.

In fact, it's hard to find a traditional "left" opinion anywhere on their site. Perhaps they are a new New Left, or post New Left. Whatever it is, it seems very individualistic. Back in the 70s, Margaret Thatcher said that there is no such thing as society, only families and individuals. Is that perspective now considered "left"? I hope not.

It looks like the right-wing propaganda machine is setting up the BI to be its "left leaning" lapdog, and the editors at 60-Minutes are playing along. Kind of like how Crossfire set up centrist Michael Kinsley as their "leftist", and then proceeded to kick his ass regularly.
