Fon is back... big deal

For around a year, my FON hotspot was turned off, due to lack of appropriate permissions to tap into my local sources of broadband. Now, it's back, and in the South Central / USC area.

El Fon Blog has a lot of smart ranting about Fon. It really opened my eyes to what's going on with Fon in the USA (nothing, it's in decline).

The Fon message boards are also useful. I learned that some residents in the UK can get 50mbs internet, and vacation in Spain and use their Fon accounts. Here in L.A., I can get 1.5mbs internet, and a staycation. Granted, many businesses operate in Spanish, so, there's some international flair.

My Fonera logs say that nobody except I have used the connection. I guess that people just don't feel a need to come here, try to find parking, then net-surf for several minutes.

Therein lies the problem of Fon in the USA. They need to locate their hotspots in hot spots, where people feel like sitting down, even if it's in their cars. (There are people in their cars, sitting, here, but, I think some of them just want to get away from the family a while.) Their paltry rev-share scheme doesn't pay off.
