On tha Mics 2nite:
Holdin it down on the regular while his RadioBOMB crewmates run rampant over these frequencies is MC Ghost (Phalanx MOB- LA).  His familiar partner in crime Ryan Yokota aka Ronin Red (Shoktroopers – LA) is always bringing political heat to motivate our minds while our featured artists move and shake our bodies.  The newest addition to the program is the female flava of Karin Anna Cheung from Better Luck Tomorrow, critically acclaimed breakthrough film for Asiatic Cinema.  An accomplished songwriter and musician, you’ll be hearing her flows over some drum&bass beats on RadioBOMB’s upcoming shows.  Finally, blazing up the scene 24/7 and on tonite’s airwaves is Jade Chin aka J-LUV, activist/publicist in the world of hiphop and electronica.  Tonite she brings a special treat for the electronica fans in
Southern California… A pair of tickets for The Rapture on Sunday featuring Goldie and Storm of the Metalheadz Tour.

So just sit back, jump up, or get down as they command the R-Bomb fleet and seize your radio bleep's transmission.

Rockin tha Spot:

Fahaja Uprockers is a local music collective headed up by virtuoso vocalist and musician Sheila Govindarajan and producer DJ Rabjab,  Between them, the duo plays  tablas, congas, melodica, harmonium, Wurlitzer, chromachord, keyboards, digital & analog production equipment, mpcs, turntables to create their unique sound.  Currently working on their 1st EP of trip hop, reggae, soul and jazz- Fahaja Uprockers will be releasing this self-produced album by the end of December.  The voice of Fahaja, Sheila, has performed at Sunset Junction 2002 sharing the stage with artists Sonic Youth, Mary Wilson, and Chaka Khan.  Since August, Sheila has started a recording/engineering instruction program for LA youth from families receiving welfare.

Her involvement in the LA underground goes back 7yearrs with the spoken word MCs Angelik Vagrants, and as a poet has performed alongside Saul Williams.  Joshua, aka DJ Rabjab is a Minneapolis native actor and model currently in LA finishing his masters degree at USC’s School of Film.  He wrote and directed the highly acclaimed hiphop documentary Elements Of Style, released in 2000.

Often the States witness the cutting edge of music and art many moons after it has become commonplace in Europe. Last night in LA, hailing from the UK, we interview a group that is taking the breakbeat and Asian electronica scenes by storm: Visionary Underground. With breaks remixes of Nitin Sawhney and Asian Dub Foundation (ft. Sinead O'Connor) under their belts they have recently played at festivals in the UK to audiences of over 100,000. Representing the crew Producer/DJ FeelFree and Aref Durvesh take some time to tell us what’s on their minds.

DJ FeelFree has been involved on the London underground dance circuit since 1989. He is a product of the acid house scene from the late eighties and first began beat mixing in 1990. This he took to like a duck to water but this was not where it was going to stop as the urge to write and produce his own music was calling… He went to college to acquire technical skills whilst also hooking up with different producers to write dance music. Having had several underground releases whilst working with different people he realised that he wanted something more concrete and there was a much bigger picture. In 1997 FeelFree & Coco founded Visionary Underground, an audio visual concept which began as a production company that put on underground parties in London.  FeelFree can currently be found teamed up with DJ Ges-e of Nasha Records and they are writing some strictly dancefloor breakbeat and d&b mixes due for release 2003.

British Asian Aref Durvesh comes from a musical family that stems back five generations. His father Abdul Kadir Durvesh is the number one Shanai player in the UK. In fact one of Aref’s first recording experiences was accompanying his father on a studio session with George Harrison. Although Aref's training was as an Indian classical musician he is as comfortable in club culture as he is in western classical music. He has played & collaborated with artists such as Sting, Nitin Sawhney, Badmarsh & Shri, State of Bengal, Joi, classical pianist Katia Labeque, Marque Gilmore, London Symphony Orchestra, Sushila Raman, Kiki Dee & Transglobal Underground. On his own project Aref has fused melodic funky tables with Indian classical, jungle, breakbeat, garage & hip-hop.

Dhamaal has received the Bay Area Guardian Editors Pick award for 2003. This publication has the largest circulation weekly in the Bay Area.   Best South Asian Sights and Sounds… For the past few years, a visionary group of DJs, visual artists, and musicians called Dhamaal has been shaking up the underground with its highly skilled blend of beats and traditional South Asian sounds. The loose multimedia collective – whose members include cofounders Janaka Selecta and Maneesh the Twister, along with other masters of turntable and tabla – composed the beautiful music sequence for this year's S.F. International Asian American Film Festival trailer and during the festival battled New York's Mutiny Crew in an epic performance. Catch Dhamaal propelling a sea of swiveling hips every third Friday at Club Six and look out for an upcoming album, release date TBA.”
